Hi, If I'm not mistaken the copy protection was not dependent on the serial key, but only kicked it if a non-original CD was used for playing and/or installation (parts of the original CD were made 'damaged' on purpose as part of copy protection).

2 things were altered: aside from the iron smelters making pigs which you mentioned (pig iron, get it?), the trees planted by foresters wouldn't grow properly, so the woodcutter couldn't cut them and they'd only take up space without providing any wood. I have the CD and not the GOG version of this game, so I can't answer your question, however I'm almost 100% sure that the GOG version doesn't have this bug because: Hundreds of users with gog versions have posted questions about the campaign on these boards. If they had the bug they wouldn't have been able to play the game. And at least one of them would have mentioned it.

Vielen tausend Dank fuer die tolle Anleitung und die dazugehoerigen Patches. Da die Siedler 3 zu meinen absoluten Lieblingsspielen zaehlen, war ich natuerlich bitter entaeuscht, als ich feststellen musste, dass dieses Spiel nicht mehr mit meinen neuen Rechnern funktioniert. Hatte es schon einige Male versucht zu installieren, aber mir fehlte immer der zweite Patch, mit dem es ja auch unter hoeheren Betriebssystemen sehr gut laeuft.

Danke, ich bin gerade total gluecklich, dass ich endlich wieder mein Siedler zocken kann, ohne dafuer meinen uralten PC rauskramen zu muessen 😀 (was mich ja letztlich immer davon abhielt, es zu spielen). Hoffentlich bleibt diese Seite lange erhalten, ich habe mir die Patches und die tolle Anleitung gleich mal gespeichert und werde sie mir nacher noch auf CD brennen, damit ich sie immer bei der Hand habe ^^.

Ich hatte riesige Probleme mit S3 und Windows 7 64-bit, aber es funktioniert jetzt!!! Zuerst einmal muss es die Gold Version von S3 sein. Die Originalversion ist nicht angesprungen. Danach konnte ich zwar Autorun oeffnen, der Computer hat kurz geladen, danach konnte man zwar Setup.exe im Task Manager finden, aber nichts passierte.

Hier die Loesung fuer mich: 1.) Setup.exe im Install Verzeichnis auf der 2. CD in Kompatibilitaetsmodus Win 98/ME setzen (bei manchen geht es mit XP Sp2, andere brauchen Win 95). 2.) Computer im Gesicherten Modus starten (ohne Netwerk) 3.) Installation dort starten. Sollte es zu Error 105 kommen (wie bei mir), dann diesen Schritten folgen:!-installation-von-%22die-siedler-3%22-auf-windows-7-64-bit Bei mir konnte ich nicht alle Dateien erzetzen, aber es hat dann trotzdem geklappt. 4.) Den 1.60 Patch installieren 5.) Den Win 7 Patch installieren 6.) Programm auf Win 98 und Administrator Kompatibilitaet setzen Ergebnis: Es laeuft bei mir!
