Some critial and some important updates are not being added to my computer. My last update was May 19, 2013. So you are better to leave automatic updates Off and do the updates by manually visiting the windows update site using your browser. And on the second Tuesday of the new year January 14, 2014 you will need to manually download the newly released update for IE8 and install it and reboot before using windows update on January 14 when that update has been released.
