Windows 2003 Reset Activation Timer
We had a situation where the time on a Windows 2003 server was getting set back spontaneously. We discounted the possibility of another computer on the network acting.

- Nov 26, 2007 The suggested solution was to check the Don't reset grace period for activation. Windows 2003 sysprep, timer is not resetting for activation so time.
Boot into 'Safe Mode'. To do this, turn the laptop on and press F8 as it is booting up.
Go into 'Safe Mode' by choosing the 'Safe Mode' option. Once you are at the desktop in 'Safe Mode', Click 'Start' then click 'Run'.
At the run command prompt type the following EXACTLY rundll32.exe syssetup,SetupOobeBnk.NOTE: The 'Oo's in Oobe are 'oh's' - not 'zero's' There is one space after rundll32.exe. It is case sensitive as far as I know. Click OK Wait a few seconds - the screen may blip a few times or so. This just reset Windows Activation for 30 days. Reboot the PC into normal mode - log in - re-activate Windows.
Reset Activation Lock
I have a server on my network that is running windows server 2003 and is hosting my exchange email application for my entire corporation. This server has been up and running for over 2 years and we are dependant on the functions it has to offer us. Just today i went to remote desktop into the server and it said that it needs to be activated before i login and that i cannot login until it has been activated. What happens if it fails to activate? Will the server shut down?
Will i loose my company email? Ok just checked the windows logs and it seems that the registry was corrupted to a point that i had to reactivate the server. Odd i know but after that went through i am now doing a ntfs backup using the software that came with the server just to be safe.
Then i will be running a manual full backup using achronis. Incase my server goes down i can virtualize it in less than 1 day and have it back up and running till the operating system gets reinstalled. Still not sure what the issue was though.
Virus scanner does not show anything. Could have been a hickup. Thank you all for your support! If you have any SharePoint 2003 issues i would be more than happy to assist in exchange for your help.:). Always happy to help on SW - We all have issues we need help with and this is the perfect forum. YOU HAVE MAJOR ISSUES with your server After you get a backup - start checking hardware, starting with the HDD array. Sounds like you are having a harddrive failure, which would explain why you are losing files.
Use the UBCD drive fitness tests, my guess is you will find some failures. Replace the failing drive(s) and restore your backup. Did you make recovery CDs with Acronis for this server? If you haven't, this should be one of your first steps after you get the Aconris Agent working again. We use Acronis here, so I have a pretty good understanding of the package. Let me know if I can help further.
